I have been working on my swing for quite a while now as you probably realise.
I have posted on swing plane, video lessons and every thing else you can find on this site (I wont repeat it all).
I have had a rather frustrating continuing problem, erratic driver. Every time I have a lesson I find I can hit dead straight and consistent. When I take this to the course......... Over the period of two or so weeks....Straight then fade then after a while slice, eventually massive slice, as in not even on my fairway. making me a danger to other golfers, extremely frustrating because my swing feels the same to me. If not slicing then very inconsistent and hooking, pushing, pulling as well as slicing
Then my lovely wife who I compete with on a weekly basis around Birmingham said " When you play well there is a slight pause at the top of your back swing". p.s. she suffers me very well!, very very well, very tolerant!!!!
Yet another loop of eureka, for god sake... spent the next two weeks struggling to find a saying or song or whatever to deliver the goods,
First thing I found is I have no rhythm and I mean none!!!!!!
So, decided to purchase a golfers metronome (£20ish) for the range.
clips onto my hat so I can set quiet and not annoying to other range users. I needed a count in, top of the back swing then finish position.
The next thing was to decide what my tempo has to be. this proved to be very tricky to say the least, I was all over the place. Caz (wife) came to my rescue after about twenty Minutes by watching my swing. I actually thought I was pausing when I was not. With her help we came to 64 Beats Per Minute.
This sorted out my driver to a good degree. Next i tried a No3 hybrid that I hit extremely well, Wow! To my surprise I actually swung this club at twice the speed of my driver about 126 bpm. I then slowed this club down to the same tempo as the driver (64 bpm). this had no loss of distance and was still as accurate. next was my irons, I normally push these right, at 64 bpm these gained accuracy.
On top of this I have found my chip shots are more powerful and consistent as I don't slow down through the swing and hit my finish position on the beat. same for putting i don't get the yips so much.
Caz also says my swing looks effortless compared to before. best I can say is. tempo Is worth looking into if you lack consistency. I have only played three times this year (Darn weather) so most of this work has been at the range. however the games I have played have been four shots lower so far over nine holes (yet to play eighteen) best score have been one round at two over par, one round of six over par and one five over.
Might repost when I have played a few more games to let you know how things are going. Still getting it into memory.
p.s. One last thing I have really felt I can concentrate on the game instead of my destructive driver. nice feeling.
