Playing a nice little game of golf with my partner at Cocks Moor Wood, Birmingham. When on the short par four eighth, I hit a very nice 5 wood. I have played this course four or five times over the last fourteen months mostly very badly. the ball flew well hit the front of the defencive bunker which covers most of the front of the green ( I think the bunker makes it a par four as it only plays 185 yards from the pro Tee). It then clipped the back of the bunker and stopped less than two feet from the flag. I only had one thought, EAGLE Two! On arival I marked my ball, then after my partner Parred out I placed it carefully with the line looking dead centre of the hole. Had a real good look. thought "right edge". then thought "don't over complicate it, play safe, aim dead centre, nice smooth tap" Lipped out left hand side. Woe is me! Next time, mutter mutter.

Oh beauty! I've had a similar experience with the 2nd on the yellow's at Whittlebury. I'd about 280ish par4, with lake to left and no-mans-land to right. Ok it wasn't an Eagle but a birdie.
I got a perfect drive to about 50 yards from the green, and a sand wedge took me to about 2 foot from the pin. Now I feel confident in my short game and putting, and I would NEVER miss a 2 foot putt so what went wrong?

I started to think about the shot way too much. It was an up hill putt, and I hit it short! I was afraid of over cooking the shot, thought, re-thought and missed. Putting is all instinctive, your body instinctively knows how much weight to put behind a putt :)
